The Cross

I love the Cross.

Of course, historically, it was a terrifying symbol—an instrument of execution. But through Jesus Christ, God transformed that instrument of death into a vessel of grace. On the Cross, the fate of humanity—once destined for death—was changed into resurrection and eternal life.

Through the Cross of Jesus, countless lives have been transformed. This transformation can be symbolized by the two beams that make up the Cross:

The vertical beam represents our restored relationship with God—a life connected to the divine.

It speaks of worship, faith, and the command to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart.”

The horizontal beam signifies our relationship with one another—a life connected to our neighbors. It calls us to live in love, empathy, and service, fulfilling the command to “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

A life connected by love—to God and to others—is the essence of salvation and the foundation of life in the Kingdom of God.
